Hex Hamlet is a cosy low-poly kit for medieval hex maps: chunky tiles, beaches that fit together on their own, a whole village, and the little things that make a map feel lived in.

Every model shares one material and one tiny 512 × 256 colour atlas, so a whole kingdom is a handful of draw calls and recolouring the kit means painting a few pixels.

Coasts that fit themselves

Put grass next to water and it needs a beach on exactly the right sides. Hex Hamlet ships 13 coast shapes that cover every one of the 63 combinations (islets included), plus a lookup table: from a tile's 6 neighbours, get the piece and its rotation. In Godot the included HexHamletMap does it for you, so you just paint land and water.

What you get

  • 11 terrain tiles: grass, flowery grass, wheat field, water, roads, rivers carved into the tile, hill, mountain, forest
  • 13 coast shapes: sand slope, foam line and shallow shelf
  • 13 buildings: house, tavern, chapel, blacksmith, market, barn, windmill, watermill, well, tower, keep, mine, lumber camp
  • Harbour: dock and boat
  • Nature: round tree, pine, bush, rocks, flowers, grass tufts
  • GLB, FBX and OBJ for every model. FBX imports at 1 unit = 1 m with no stray rotation.
  • Godot 4 project: drop-in map builder plus a random-island demo (press R for a new island). Uses the Compatibility renderer, so it runs everywhere, web export included.
  • grid.json: tile measurements and the full coast table, for any engine
  • Blender source + generator script: the whole kit is built by one Python script. Change the palette or proportions and rebuild every model.

Specs

Flat-top hexes, 2 m across. Land surface at 0.34 m, water at 0.20 m. Every origin sits at the base centre. Tiles are 270–4,100 triangles (most under 2,000), buildings 570–2,400, props under 800.

Screenshots 1–4 are rendered in Blender Cycles. The last screenshot is real-time in Godot 4.

I love the style, and the colors are great.

Thanks! I'm just getting started. Gonna do a snow variant soon :)

I’ve just published a free pack of low-poly models with a polar theme — feel free to use them as a reference :)

Oh wauw I see, nice. It's quite a similar style I am going for! I'm thinking a Nordic Village

Ok this is cute. The little houses and trees look great on hex tiles. Do the roads connect automatically or do you have to place the corner pieces by hand? Thinking about using it for a small strategy prototype.

Thanks! Coasts connect automatically (the Godot build() helper and the lookup table in grid.json handle them), but roads don't. You place them yourself: there's a straight piece and a gentle bend, and you rotate them in 60° steps. Both join at the middle of each hex edge, so any path made only of straights and wide bends lines up cleanly. There aren't junction or sharp-turn pieces yet, so if your prototype needs forks or crossroads you'd have to handle those yourself for now. If that's a dealbreaker, let me know which pieces you'd need.

Thanks for the detailed answer, really helpful! Good luck with the pack.
