Medieval Realm Map Kit
A downloadable asset pack
Medieval Realm Map Kit is a hex system for medieval strategy campaigns, built from geometry rather than texture. No parchment, no woodcut filler. Dark stone, argent on indigo for your realm, and gold for the crown that wants it.
Everything is vector. Every piece ships as SVG and as transparent PNG at three resolutions, so it drops into any engine without shaders. If you want a different size, a different palette or a sixth claimant, the source is included.
Allegiance, not just ownership
Most hex kits have two sides. A realm is held through people, so this one has a third axis, and each value is shown by the tile's structure, not just a colour swap:
- Crown: your demesne, marked with a barred escutcheon
- Vassal: sworn to you. A doubled border and loyalty 0–4, shown right on the tile
- Rival: another crown. Saltires, a dashed border, and gold
- Contested: split along the hex grain with an ember seam
- Revolt: an overlay whose border teeth point inward. Any ground can turn on its holder.
One size knob, one canvas
The art is authored at R = 84. Every inset, stroke, merlon and lozenge is a ratio of R, so the kit rescales without redrawing. Every tile-scale piece shares one 240 × 216 canvas and one centre, so ground, overlays, roads and markers line up exactly when stacked.
What you get (159 pieces)
- 41 ground tiles: 5 grounds × 8 terrains (plains, forest, hills, mountains, marsh, farmland, moor, vineyard), plus unscouted
- 14 transparent overlays: hover, selected, available, besieged, revolt, settled, locked, walls for both sides, loyalty 0–4. Also 7 pre-composited states
- Walled holdings, vassal ground at every loyalty, 4 rival tinctures (or, gules, vert, purpure) so up to five sides can share one board, and pointy-top grounds
- 12 road pieces and 4 river pieces: kingsway, road, track and water in straight, turn, junction and terminus. Every other case is a 60° rotation, and the rule is documented
- 23 markers (keeps, royal seat, chapels, treasury, holdings, hosts, bridges, ports, battles, siege, revolt, rival king, warlord, locked) and 15 glyphs in argent and in gold
- The levy in four states: mustered, marching, strained, refused
- Realm banners and victory / defeat plates
- Two finished showcase boards

Engine support
- Web:
web/medieval-map-kit.js, no dependencies and no build step. Hover, selection, keyboard focus and a live scale slider. The front line and levy are computed from your data. - Godot 4: two scripts and a demo scene. Rendered in-engine in Godot 4.4.1 (GL Compatibility), with every tile, road, wall, loyalty mark and marker placed correctly. Class names don't clash with the Roman Campaign Map Kit.
- Anything else: the PNGs are plain transparent sprites, and
geometry.jsonhas every number you need.
Banner and plate SVGs reference EB Garamond and Inter (SIL OFL, Google Fonts) by name. The fonts aren't bundled; the PNGs are already rendered.
