Hex Heroes are three chibi heroes for cozy hex maps: a Knight with sword and heater shield, a Samurai in lacquered armour with katana and saya, and a Nordic warrior with axe and round shield.

They share one humanoid rig, one 1024 × 1024 gradient atlas and one set of 10 animations, so every clip plays on every hero, and the whole party is a single material.

One rig, 10 clips

  • Loops: Idle, Walk, Run, Block (guard hold), Cheer
  • One-shots: Sword Slash, Katana Draw-Slash, Axe Chop, Hit, Death (ends lying down)
  • 30 fps and in place, so your code moves the hero. Every clip keys every body bone, so blending never leaves a bone behind.
  • The rig has 27 bones with Mixamo-style names. Unity maps it as a valid Humanoid without manual mapping.
  • HexHeroes_Animations is the rig with every clip and no mesh, for retargeting and animation setups.

Sockets and swappable gear

The gear sits on socket bones: HeadSlot, LeftHandSlot, RightHandSlot, LeftHipSlot, RightHipSlot and a free BackSlot for a slung shield or quiver. All 9 pieces also ship as separate files, with each origin on its socket. Parent a piece to the socket with no offset and it fits. Give the Knight the kabuto, or the Samurai the Knight's shield.

Made for the Hex packs

At 0.75 m to the top of the helmet, the heroes are sized for the 2 m hex tiles of Hex Hamlet and Winter Hamlet and the Sakura pack. Stand them on a tile at y = 0.34 and they sit next to the wells, cabins and lanterns at the right scale. Each hero has a home biome: the Knight in the green valley, the Samurai under the cherry trees, the Nordic warrior in the snow.

What you get

  • 3 rigged heroes: GLB and FBX, each with its gear on sockets and all 10 clips
  • 9 gear pieces: helmet, sword and shield (Knight); kabuto, katana and saya (Samurai); helmet, axe and round shield (Nordic), in GLB and FBX
  • The animation rig: every clip with no mesh, GLB and FBX
  • One 1024 × 1024 atlas shared by everything, which is easy to recolour
  • manifest.json: triangle counts, bones, socket positions and clip frame ranges
  • Works in Godot 4, Unity and any glTF engine. It was tested in Godot 4.4 (GLB and FBX) and Unity 6 (FBX as Humanoid).

Specs

Knight 2,826 triangles, Samurai 3,146, Nordic 3,550 (body), plus 124–1,294 per gear piece. 1 unit = 1 m, +Y up, front faces +Z. Weights are rigid per limb part, with rounded parts overlapping at the joints, so nothing stretches.

Screenshots 1–7 are rendered in Blender Cycles. Screenshot 8 is real-time in the browser (three.js, the shipped GLBs).

Licence

Use the assets in any number of your own games and projects, commercial ones included. You may not resell or redistribute the assets themselves. The full text is in LICENSE.md inside the download.

Try before you buy: the free demo has the Knight at full quality under the same licence, with all 10 clips and his helmet, sword and shield.

How it's made: the heroes, their rig and every animation are procedural. Blender Python scripts build the meshes, weights, keys and the colour atlas, with no AI image, 3D or motion generation. The scripts were written with the help of an AI coding assistant.
