Sakura Hamlet — Cozy Japanese 3D Hex Kit
A downloadable asset pack
Sakura Hamlet is a cozy low-poly kit for Japanese hex maps at festival dusk: machiya townhouses with glowing lattice fronts, a tea house under a red parasol, a three-tier pagoda, a black-cedar castle keep behind stone walls, a vermilion shrine, festival food stalls strung with paper lanterns, rice terraces, a koi pond and arched bridges, with cherry blossom on the trees, the roofs, the roads and the water.
Every model shares one material and one 1024 × 256 colour atlas. A matching emission map lights only the lanterns and paper windows, so a whole blossoming town is a handful of draw calls, and recolouring the kit means painting a few pixels.
Coasts that fit themselves
Put grass next to water and it needs a shoreline on exactly the right sides. Sakura Hamlet ships 13 sandy coast shapes that cover every one of the 63 combinations, islets included, plus a lookup table: from a tile's 6 neighbours you get the piece and its rotation. In Godot, the included HexHamletMap does this for you. You paint land and water, and the coasts appear.
Mixes with Hex Hamlet and Winter Hamlet
Sakura Hamlet is built on the same grid as Hex Hamlet and Winter Hamlet: the same tile size, heights, road and river edges and coast rules. Tiles from all three sit side by side on one map. Every file starts with sakura_, so the packs share one models folder.
What you get
- 12 terrain tiles: grass, grass with blossom, hill, bamboo grove, road straight / bend, river straight / bend, koi pond, flooded rice terraces, green rice terraces, open water
- 13 coast shapes: every shoreline, islets included
- 12 buildings and structures: small and large machiya, tea house, thatched minka, kura storehouse, shrine hall, three-tier pagoda, castle keep (tenshu), castle gatehouse, castle wall, corner turret, festival food stall (the wall runs along hex edges, and a road passes through the gate)
- Nature: mature and young cherry trees, bamboo, cedar, mossy rocks, clipped azalea, fallen-petal patch, drifting petals
- Props: torii gate (it also stands in the sea), stone lantern, arched bridge, cedar fence, paper-lantern pole, cedar landing
- GLB, FBX and OBJ for every model. FBX imports at 1 unit = 1 m with no stray rotation.
- Godot 4 project: a drop-in map builder with automatic coasts, plus a demo map. It uses the Compatibility renderer, so it runs everywhere, web export included.
grid.json: tile measurements and the full coast table, for any engine- Blender source + generator script: one Python script builds the whole kit. Change the palette or proportions and rebuild every model.
Specs
Flat-top hexes, 2 m across. Land surface at 0.34 m, water at 0.20 m. Every origin sits at the base centre. Tiles are 270–4,100 triangles, buildings 470–4,500, and props and nature 40–1,800 (79k triangles for all 51 models).
Screenshots 1–6 are rendered in Blender Cycles. Screenshot 7 is real-time in Godot 4.
Licence
Use the assets in any number of your own games and projects, commercial ones included. You may not resell or redistribute the assets themselves. The full text is in LICENSE.md inside the download.
Try before you buy: the free demo has 12 models at full quality under the same licence: grass, water, road, bamboo grove, hill, two coasts, a machiya, the tea house, a cherry tree, a stone lantern and a torii gate.
How it's made: every model is procedural. Blender Python scripts build the geometry and the colour atlas, with no AI image or 3D generation. The scripts were written with the help of an AI coding assistant.
